Voices in English
We can classify tense in two ways as below.
1. Active voice -Focusing on the Subject
2. Passive voice-Focusing on the action
Already we have seen the structure of Active voice.Because it is the regular one.So here we will see about the structure of Passive voice.
- Passive voices are mostly used in article writing
, story, history writing or telling.we can seethese when we read newspapers. - As I had said earlier articles , Each tense has 4
forms but in passive voice we have only 3 forms.Passive voice doesn't have perfect continuous tense. - Mostly the passive voices have answer for the question "By whom?".It can be either direct or indirect.
Moreover some exception cases also there.we will discuss it later.
i)Simple present tense
Object + am/are/is + Past participle +by + subject
(e.g ) The car +is+driven+by+me
Object + have/has +been+ Past participle +by + subject
(e.g ) The car +has+been+driven+by+me
Object + am/are/is +being+ Past participle +by + subject
(e.g ) The car +is+being+driven+by+me
i)Simple past tense
Object + was/were + Past participle +by + subject
(e.g ) The car +was+driven+by+me
At an office party, I was introduced to a president .

Object + had +been+ Past participle +by + subject
(e.g ) The car +had+been+driven+by+me
Object + was/were +being+ Past participle +by + subject
(e.g ) The car +was+being+driven+by+me
i)Simple future tense
Object + will +be+ Past participle +by + subject
(e.g ) The car +will+be+driven+by+me
Object + will +have+been+ Past participle +by + subject
(e.g ) The car +will+have+been+driven+by+me
