Voices in English

We can  classify tense in two ways as below.
1.Active voice -Focusing on the Subject
2.Passive voice-Focusing on the action

Already we have seen the structure of Active voice.Because it is the regular one.So here we will see about the structure of Passive voice.

  • Passive voices are mostly used in article writing,story,history writing or telling.we can see these when we read newspapers.
  •  As I had said earlier articles , Each tense has 4 forms but in passive voice we have only 3 forms.Passive voice doesn't have perfect continuous tense .
  • Mostly the passive voices have answer for the question "By whom?".It can be either direct or indirect.Moreover some exception cases also there.we will discuss it later.



1.Present tense
           i)Simple present tense
                                         
                                         Object + am/are/is + Past participle +by + subject
                                        
                                         (e.g)  The car +is+driven+by+me
          ii)Present perfect tense
                                                
                                           Object + have/has +been+ Past participle +by + subject
                                             
                                                (e.g)  The car +has+been+driven+by+me
          iii)Present continuous tense
                                                            
                                              
                                                Object + am/are/is +being+ Past participle +by + subject

                                             
                                                (e.g)  The car +is+being+driven+by+me



2.Past tense
           i)Simple past tense
                                         
                                         Object + was/were + Past participle +by + subject
                                        
                                         (e.g)  The car +was+driven+by+me
                                                    At an office party, I was introduced to a president .
          ii)Past perfect tense
                                                
                                           Object + had +been+ Past participle +by + subject
                                             
                                                (e.g)  The car +had+been+driven+by+me
          iii)Past continuous tense
                                                            
                                              
                                                Object + was/were +being+ Past participle +by + subject

                                             
                                                (e.g)  The car +was+being+driven+by+me


3.Future tense
           i)Simple future tense
                                         
                                         Object + will +be+ Past participle +by + subject
                                        
                                         (e.g)  The car +will+be+driven+by+me
          ii)Future perfect tense
                                                
                                           Object + will +have+been+ Past participle +by + subject
                                             
                                                (e.g)  The car +will+have+been+driven+by+me
          iii)Future continuous tense
                                                     
                                          Not applicable.
