English Course (Day 5)

I have dedicated this lesson to Past continuous tense which will be helpful for express the continuous incidents in past .

As per our way of learning we have classified it as 3 categories.So here we go

1.Positive Sentence
2.Negative Sentence
3.Question Sentence

1.Positive Sentences

    Syntax
    Subject+auxiliary verb+main verb+ing

i)I+was+verb+ing
ii)we/you/they+were+verb+ing
iii)he/she/it+was+verb+ing

(e.g)

I was watching TV.

We were going to school.

He was writing the letter.

2.) Negative sentences

              With the above sentence we have to add the word "not" to make negative sentences.

i)I+was+not+verb+ing
ii)we/you/they+were+not+verb+ing
iii)he/she/it+was+not+verb+ing


(e.g)


I was not watching TV.


We were not going to school.


He was not writing the letter.


3.) Question sentences


     i)Yes/No questions


        Syntax
           auxiliary verb+ Subject+main verb+ing?  


            (e.g)


              Was I  watching TV?


              Were We  going to school?


              Was He  writing the letter?


      ii) Information questions


            With the above sentence pattern we   have to add the question words .


           (e.g)


               What were you doing?


               Why was he coming?


              How was I going?
